To be eligible for these credentials, you must first meet specific educational and project or programme management experience requirements and agree to adhere to a code of professional conduct. The final step is passing a rigorous computer-based multiple-choice examination designed to objectively assess and measure your ability to apply project or programme management knowledge. The examinations are administered globally with translation aids in 10 languages. They are available at 10 sites in the UK.

How to apply for professional qualifications

To apply for PMI qualifications online, we recommend you visit the Professional Development section of the PMI web site and download the certification Handbook. Review this and check you meet the eligibility requirements.

To apply for PMP and CAPM qualifications, complete the on line form. You can complete some of the form, save it and return to it. Once you submit it, PMI will assess it and if it is accepted will send you an Eligibility Letter. This explains how to book the exam. The examinations are administered globally with translation aids in 10 languages. They are available at 10 sites in the UK. Once you submit your answers at the end of the exam the system will give your score immediately, allowing you to find out whether you’ve passed or failed.

The PMI professional credentials are:

  • Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM®) – no renewal cycle. Expires after 5 years, after which you must reapply.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP®) Renewal every 3 years, requires 60 Professional Development Units
  • Program Management Professional (PgMPSM). Renewal every 3 years, requires 60 Professional Development Units
