Will Woodhead is the CEO and Co-Founder of Mafic, a construction intelligence company which uses information from wearables to better understand how projects perform at a granular level to allow future projects to perform at a higher level.

Mafic Safeguard is a wearable device which uses machine learning to understand the activity someone is performing from the movement of their head. Will will introduce the technology as well as Mafic’s current dataset from residential and commercial sectors in UK and Europe. He will lift the lid on what a typical productivity distribution looks like in a workforce and then demonstrate the impact this has on the economics of a project and why projects can still save money by doubling the good people’s salary.

Followed by a Q & A from Martin Paver, CEO of Projecting Success & Gareth Parkes, Head of Data and Analytics, Sir Robert McAlpine.

Will is an Engineer by trade and spent the first 20 years of his career working overseas in shipyards in China, Japan and Korea. He has been part of the most complex offshore projects the oil and gas industry has seen and worked in cultures and environments alien to many. He studied Mandarin in Shanghai Jiao tong University and more recently worked for Samsung Heavy Industries where he wrestled with managing large workforces over large areas in sometimes harsh environments. It was here where the idea of Mafic came to Will and he brought his family back to the UK to start a new chapter in their lives and a new chapter in the construction industry.

Gareth leads data, innovation, and digital transformation projects at Sir Robert McAlpine. He provides better insights to people by connecting people, innovating, troubleshooting and problem-solving, appreciating experiences and is a huge advocate for change. He is intensely curious, and a firm believe in the power of collaboration and empowering the individual.

Gareth studied Chemical Process Engineering at Nottingham and Economics & Policy of Energy & the Environment at UCL before finding a career in digital change, innovation and business improvement. For 8 years he worked at the Energy Institute, where he set up and ran their Knowledge Service, set up the digital team and created the Energy Barometer – a tool that's still tapping into the pulse of the energy profession.

Martin Paver is the CEO of Projecting Success and Founder of the Project Data Analytics Community. From being a young engineer through to leading a $bn infrastructure project he has always been frustrated with how difficult it is to leverage experience from previous projects. He now has the opportunity to do something about it and it is a wonderful challenge.

His quest is to work with organisations to help bring new thinking to how they leverage value from investments in delivered projects, avoid the same costly mistakes of the past and exploit good practice. He applies the latest data analytics thinking and combines this with practical experience in bids, project delivery and knowledge management.
