Topic: Communicating leadership in uncertainty

How and what leaders communicate during uncertainty can make the difference between project teams riding the storms and the project descending into chaos from which there is little chance of return. This webinar explores leadership styles by understanding how successful leaders communicate in order to lead highly complex projects.Communication style is a key indicator of leadership style. For the study, project leaders, across several industry sectors, were selected on the basis of having undertaken key leadership roles in high risk projects that were agreed by key stakeholders to be complex, high risk and successful. A surprisingly consistent set of themes have emerged from the study.

Kaye Remington, former Director of the Post-graduate Project Management Program at the University of Technology Sydney, has been working on projects in various leadership roles, from project manager to executive sponsor, since the early 1970's. During that time she has seen the emergence of Project Management as an important but still emerging professional discipline. Her major interest nowadays is complexity and projects. Her most recent publication, Leading Complex Projects (Gower Publishing), draws on the practical experience of over 70 project leaders (from project manager to executive sponsor) chosen because they had taken key roles in successful, but also highly complex projects. Kaye is now Managing Director of a small consulting firm (www.elefsis.org), which specialises in leadership for complex environments. She balances this role with a continued interest in research and writing.
