PMI UK revamped web site launched

29 November 2009

So the site is now launched, what benefits will you see?  There is now a PMI UK members only area with a forum, bookshop and members offers pages; the Communications pages will have links to newsletters and blogs, and early next year webinars and podcasts; the site should now be easier to navigate, look a bit crisper and have a better feel; we've added more links to find out information, such as the link the Global PMI web site to hep a REP in the UK; and we are working with a recruitment agency to put a link on the site to help members find job opportunities.  There are indirect benefits for members too, we now no longer need a seperate tool for distributing newsletters which allows us to save costs to be spent elsewhere.  talking of the newsletter, If you can't wait for the it or want to know when an event has been posted, you can use RSS links to get this.

It seems a long time (January 09) ago when we first put out the "Request For Interest" in revamping the PMI UK web site, after some research we went to eight companies, of which four responded.  We selected Pixl8 due to a combination of price and relevant experience as they have done web sites for a lot of membership organisations.

We put out a call for a volunteer PM and we had a good response, so the prospective PMs had to suffer my telephone interview technique.  Ifeanyi Nwabueze was the lucky candidate and we were soon off to talk to Pixl8 who were very helpful in determining what they'd need from us to get the job done.

It took several months of passing the contract back and forth to get it finalised, not helped by my being out of the country on business on a regular basis.  So contract signed and we're off, Pixl8 had started some initial work as they'd wanted to show us a rough idea of what we would be getting, so it was now a matter of moving data over and getting set-up for UAT.  Once again it was a call out for volunteers and many thanks to the 20 or so who put themselves forward to give the site a good going over.

I've mentioned Ifeanyi was the PM for this project, and would like to acknowledge his effort and dedication in seeing this through, it wouldn't have happened without him.

If you have any feedback (good or bad) about the web site, then please contact me at communications@pmi.org.uk.
